Ricardo Mendes André has a Master Degree as Electrical Engineer from Instituto Superior Técnico-Universidade Técnica de Lisboa.
In 2008 he joined EDP Group where he has been developing his career and skills in a wide areas of the energy sector, from generation sector, to R&D sector and mostly in distribution sector.
He stared his career in EDP Generation where we worked in thermal power plants performance and contract management, and in 2012 he has joined EDP Distribuição. Since then he has been managing several innovation projects in the DSO ecosystem, from energy storage, where he started the first Portuguese project in energy storage owned by the DSO, to fully integrated smart grid projects, like SENSIBLE, where he took coordination of the demonstration stage of this H2020 project focused on distributed energy storage and energy management applied in buildings, energy communities and distribution grids, considering the highlight that SENSIBLE was selected as flagship project in energy innovation by the EU, considering the ambition and results achieved.
Currently Ricardo is member of InovGrid European Agenda Office and is the Coordinator of InteGrid Project, an H2020 strategical project for EDP Distribuição, which addresses the key role of the DSO in the transition for a cleaner, safer, cost effective energy system, integrating distribution grid stakeholders within a smartgrid paradigm enabling new energy services and disruptive business models.
Ricardo is also member of international top tier forums like IEC-Technical Committee 120 on Energy Storage and CIRED’s technical committee’s working groups on Microgrids and Blockchain, Transactive Energy & P2P trading.
